Diagnostic Services

Nothing beats a thorough physical exam but not all illnesses can accurately be diagnosed with examination alone. Therefore, we offer a variety of diagnostic testing to quickly help your pet. We commonly perform routine, baseline testing for healthy pets to identify problems early. This is particularly helpful for senior pets. We recommend that all senior pets have screening blood test performed yearly, even if they appear healthy.

We offer a full in-house laboratory, which includes the ability to perform complete blood counts (CBC), chemistry profiles and thyroid testing quickly. Other in house diagnostic services include:

Fecal analysis

Heartworm testing (dogs and cats)

Lyme/Ehrlichia tick borne disease testing

Feline Leukemia and Feline AIDS (FIV) testing

Urine Testing

Canine Pancreatitis testing

Canine Parvovirus testing

Ear infection cytology analysis

Skin scraping and cytology analysis

Fungal Cultures

CardioPet ECG service (this test transmits your pets ECG through a phone line to a cardiology service who reviews it an gives us their recommendations)

Tonopen Glaucoma screening (this non-painful test screens your pets intraocular pressure and is recommended for symptomatic dogs as well as routine screening for at risk breeds)

Other diagnostic tests are sent to an outside lab, IDEXX located in Worthington, Ohio for analysis. Our exotic pet specimens are sent to a specialized lab in Wilmington, Ohio called Avian and Exotic Animal Clinical Pathology Laboratories. Other exotic animal specimens requiring pathology review are sent to Zoo/Exotic Pathology Service in California where world renowned pathologist, Dr. Drury Reavill reviews them.

How long before I hear about my pets test results?

During wellness exams, our assistants will let you know when to expect your pets test results. Many are done while you wait, others may be done once weekly i.e. heartworm testing. For other diagnostic tests, it can take up to one week for you to be called with results. This allows time for the test to be completed and for our doctors to interpret the results. We make every attempt to communicate quickly and efficiently in each case. In the event that you have not heard from us within 2 weeks, please call our office and inquire about the results.
