Prescription Refill Policies

REFILL POLICIES

As part of our commitment to your pets’ safety, we require a comprehensive examination once yearly for all pets needing prescription medication refills. This policy enables good communication between our doctors and our clients in order to safely and effectively treat our patients. State law in Ohio also requires this yearly examination as part of the client/patient relationship. In the event that your pet needs a refill and is slightly past due for their yearly physical, rest assured that we will dispense a reasonable amount of medication to keep them comfortable until you can get in for this important service.

Certain prescription medications require blood work every six months in order to assess your pets’ internal organ health. Even though we don’t expect these medications to hurt your pet, this helps assure their safety. Examples of these drugs include arthritis medications (NSAIDS), heart, thyroid and seizure meds.

We do request 24-hour notice when refilling medications by phone and 48-hour notice for online refills. We do our best to fill all refill requests as quickly as possible. If in doubt, you can always call before you come to pick up a requested medication to assure that it is ready to go. Occasionally, some medications and special orders require 1-week notice to refill.

Ask about special discounted pricing on certain “bulk” purchase medications i.e. arthritis medications such as Rimadyl, Novox, Deramaxx, Zubrin and Metacam.
